Is this file the same as that file? The files may or may not be binary. We could compare the modify dates, or the sizes. But, those are not very accurate to know if a file has really changed.

Introducing MD5 Checksum. We can feed the files into Digest::MD5 in binary mode.

This is a great way to do Incremental Backups.

This is also an easy way to verify checksums when downloading files from the internet which list their MD5 Checksums.

You'll need the Digest::MD5 Perl Module.

This snip opens any kind of document (e.g. .PDF, .DOC, .C, .HTM, etc.) using the default application associated with it. This relies on starting a new process with the .UseShellExecute property set to true.

The main overloaded function OpenDoc(filename) will open any associated document using the default OPEN verb. If you are trying to edit a file, for example, a command file, then you need should call OpenDoc with the "EDIT" verb. Some associations also a "PRINT" verb.

Since the return result is a System.Diagnostics.Process object, you can also monitor or kill the process.

Example:
OpenDoc("C:\\SomeDocumentation.pdf");
OpenDoc("C:\\AWebPage.htm", "EDIT");
OpenDoc("C:\\Test.txt", "PRINT");
System.Diagnostics.Process doc = OpenDoc("C:\\WebPage.htm");

This little number will allow the contents of other pages to be included or embedded into the rendered HTML of an aspx page. Using the WebClient class from the .NET framework, you can conditionally load pages, even manipulate the HTML before it is rendered and in this example, fill in forms and execute javascript actions.

The following example shows how to auto-login to an Exchange Server - this was something requested for inclusion into our portal, but I left out the logic that pulls/decrypts the real password - for obvious reasons.

Enjoy!
