You have to escape the dots in the regex. Otherwise this would be a valid IP: 222222222.
The dot matches any character one time. So it could be an actual dot, or a number, or anything else. Try this instead.
"/([0-9]{1,3})
\.
([0-9]{1,3})
\.
([0-9]{1,3})
\.
([0-9]{1,3})/"
It's still not the best to check for valid IPs, but it's better.
